Desktop Publishing

If your company has marketing materials such as brochures, newsletters, and print-ready advertisements that need to be translated for the Japanese market, we can use the existing files to translate this content. Our process is as follows:

   • Determine Client Requirements:

We first determine the software and platform used to create your marketing materials. We work in both PC and Mac environments and have most major desktop publishing (DTP) programs, including Quark, InDesign, and FrameMaker.

   • Analyze File and Send Quotation:

We next extract the text from within the DTP program and do a word count. The per-word rate is generally the same as our technical translation rates, though advertising copy may cost more. We then estimate the number of hours that will be required to lay out the translated Japanese into the original file. The final quotation is based on a combination of the word count and estimated layout hours.

   • Translation and Text Layout:

The marketing text is translated in accordance with our quality assurance procedures and forwarded to our DTP editor for layout. Since Japanese is a double-byte character language, layout involves turning the text into an image and placing that image into the existing text boxes. This procedure eliminates font problems that can seriously complicate multilingual printing projects.

   • Final Delivery:

Once the documents have been translated and laid out as described above, we can either send them back to you for printing, or we can print the marketing materials on your behalf.

Send us a description of your project today, and we'll be happy to answer any further questions about pricing, turnaround, etc.
